"Maniac Nikko Sightseeing" for Experienced Travelers, Part 5: A Tour of the Ashio Copper Mine Ruins
Share
Ashio Copper Mine was once one of the largest copper mines in Japan, and is a place where you can feel its history as an industrial heritage site. It is now abandoned, but you can experience the atmosphere of the mine at that time by joining a tour. It is a recommended spot for those who like ruins and history.
Ashio used to be a copper mine
Ashio Town is still haunted by the image of the Ashio Copper Mine Pollution Incident, the first pollution incident in Japan during the Meiji Period. Since the mine closed in 1973, many buildings have fallen into disuse. Remains remain.

Ashio is a place where nostalgic scenery spreads out before you. Deep and highly recommended!
